The Leafy Hydroponics Event kicks off with an overview of the global leafy greens landscape and convenience market trends by Bauke van Lenteren, Marketing and Leafy Green Specialist at Rijk Zwaan. Friso Klok, Rijk Zwaan Area Sales and Chain Manager for South East Asia, subsequently looks at developments in the hydroponics market specifically in the Asian region.

Nutrifresh Farms – transforming the future of food

Driven by a strong passion for agriculture, friends Sanket Mehta and Ganesh Nikam decided to leave their successful careers to found Nutrifresh Farms in 2016. After a three-year wait, Rijk Zwaan is excited to finally be participating in Asia Fruit Logistica again in Bangkok from 2-4 November 2022. At its stand (F-17), the vegetable breeding company will be presenting a palette of bright, healthy and inspiring fruits and vegetables that contribute to a ‘Colourful Life’. Just before the trade fair, Rijk Zwaan is organising its own unique Melon Event which will zoom in on the relevant trends affecting this important category in Asia.

Rijk Zwaan’s highlights at Asia Fruit Logistica will include the yellow-flesh watermelon Tropical Sunshine, the debut of the orange-flesh Quincy melon variety Fujisawa RZ, the pink tomato Kawaguchi RZ, the four colours of Sweet Palermo® peppers, the colourful snack vegetable range SN!BS, the company’s range of Salanova® lettuces, and many, many more. Tech & Innovation seminar

The company’s focus on innovation will be further illustrated during the Tech & Innovation seminar, which Rijk Zwaan will be co-presenting in partnership with Signify and Priva. This informative presentation is being held as part of the Asia Business Forum on Wednesday 2 November (13.00-13.45 hrs). Rijk Zwaan will illustrate how the transition to new growing techniques and other innovations in Asia can bring varietal innovation, higher product quality standards and products grown closer to home.

Rijk Zwaan Melon Event

Just before the trade fair, Rijk Zwaan is organising its own unique Melon Event on 1 November. Partners from throughout the fresh supply chain can visit the Wasana Melon Farm, followed by a seminar in which various experts will share their insights into relevant production, sales and marketing trends for this important category in Asia. Rijk Zwaan will also be presenting its broad range of melon and watermelon varieties, including those that have been specifically developed for the Asian market.

Rijk Zwaan’s Hydroponics Leaf and Outdoor demos are on the agenda again in June, showcasing the vegetable breeding company’s new, colourful and high-tech vegetable varieties. In fact, both demos will run in parallel from 13-24 June, with the Outdoor demo then continuing until 1 July. During the Hydroponics Leaf Demo, Rijk Zwaan’s living lettuce concepts Salatrio® and Salanova® will be put in the spotlight. Other eye-catchers will be the company’s high-density Salanova Teenleaf and a new variety with burger-sized lettuce leaves. Meanwhile, the Outdoor Demo will highlight Rijk Zwaan’s extensive range of leafy varieties and the attractive cauliflower varieties with magnetising colours and shapes.

Hydroponics Leaf Demo in Dinteloord

This year’s displays will be based around three main hydroponic lettuce concepts: 1) The appealing and versatile combinations of Salatrio – a colourful living lettuce concept featuring an abundance of tasty leaves, enabling retailers to add more colour and diversity to the shelf and attract shoppers from across the store; 2) High-density Salanova Teenleaf – an entire range of mid-sized leaf varieties that are machine harvestable and available in a wide choice of attractive colours, textures and leaf shapes; and 3) Rijk Zwaan’s burger leaf variety with a high count of burger-sized leaves that can easily withstand heat and acidity. Furthermore, Rijk Zwaan is looking forward to welcoming visitors to its new and inspiring location in Dinteloord for valuable and stimulating discussions regarding existing and new hydroponic projects.

Outdoor Demo in Fijnaart

In parallel with the Hydroponics Leaf Demo, Rijk Zwaan will also organise its Outdoor Demo to showcase its extensive range of leafy varieties. Besides that, the company will present its colourful cauliflower varieties with magnetising colours and shapes. Still on the topic of brassicas, Rijk Zwaan’s innovative Pb Defense varieties are another of the high points at the demo. These include cauliflower varieties with strong resistance against clubroot.
