Rijk Zwaan is increasingly involved in the Asian market and has been developing a range of new types of hot pepper to meet the needs of Asian market. The development of the so-called "Bull horn" type of hot pepper variety, which is suitable for over-winter cultivation in protected areas, has completely changed the situation of no hot pepper in winter in the Chinese market. At the same time, in order to meet the needs of customers in northeast and northwest China, we have respectively developed the type of Mala pepper -- Mala Star (37-92) and the type of Longjiao --37-94 and other varieties, with its good performance by the market welcome. These Asian varieties have also found their own markets in other regions as special products.
The expanding range in Asian types will also find their way into other areas as specialty product. Apart from excellent fruit quality characteristics, the varieties for winter cultivation are also selected for their stability in that quality, cold tolerance and excellent recovery through winter.
